Passion: Dreaming of a New Creation

Happy World Communion Sunday!

As we end our study on the book of Revelation, we end with the goal in mind.  This goal of God’s to bring all creation to justice, restoration, and holiness, should provide us the passion we need to do work for God.  This is our why, and it’s a very big why indeed!  Without the animating passion for this goal, we are just another service agency trying to fix problems and ameliorate suffering.  Not that those are bad goals, mind you!  But with Revelation’s picture of the New Jerusalem before us, our world becomes less of a task and more of a calling.  This dream of God’s new creation should be what animates us and gets us (and those we help) through hard times.  When people meet us, or are helpes by us, they should see that we believe in this picture.

As we lift up our fourth “P” during worship, we’ll have a final report on the Vision conversations at the end of worship, then we’ll end worship in celebration!  Sunday is also World Communion Sunday, and we’ll take up a special offering for scholarships through the General Boar dof HIgher Education and Ministry.  You can find more information on World Communion Sunday by going to umcgiving.org and clicking on “World Communion Sunday.”  As we share in Holy Communion during the service, we want to extend an invitation to you, whether you’re a member of our church or not, to sit at the Lord’s table with us and share in this moment of grace.
